Whilst these approaches are very current and in the spotlight across the sector. At Little Flyers we have been encouraging and developing small minds in these ways for years.
Little Flyers Childcare has settings across Edinburgh and West Lothian, alongside our afterschool provision, caring for children aged 0 to 10 years. Our staff have decades of childcare experience and such genuine compassion and empathy to help support our children and families as they grow. We are so proud to be named in the ‘TOP 20 of Day Nurseries’ three years in a row.
At Little Flyers, we know that childcare is a significant expense for families, which is why it’s so important to me to use my privileged position to lobby The Scottish Government and our regulating bodies to better the private childcare sector. It’s our aim to work to better our sector by creating a balance between paying practioners the wage they deserve, and making childcare affordable for all.

At Little Flyers we know how overwhelming it can be choosing the right childcare. When I was looking for a nursery for my first child, Nicole, I didn’t know what I should be looking for, or asking about. I found it emotional because I didn’t want to leave my baby in an alien environment without me. She never settled well and our experience wasn’t a positive one.
When the time came, I chose a childminder for my second child, Jason. But he also found it hard to settle, which was very upsetting. Jason was his own person, and what I wished I’d chosen for Nicole, wasn’t right for him. I soon realised how important it is for children to have high quality, bespoke care that recognises them as individuals with their own preferences and choices.
I wanted to create a homely, family orientated environment where children are confident in being themselves. And feel celebrated and valued for the things they can achieve. A nursery with the personalised, home from home feeling you might find with a childminder. This is reflected in our gentle approach where we encourage curiosity and learning through play.
In 1999 we established our first setting at the airport and opened a nursery providing the sort of bespoke care we would have loved our own children to have. Little Flyers was taking off.
